This breathing technique will allow you to engage your parasympathetic system at will. It takes the average person 3 minutes to change the state of their body. The nostril that we breath from often impacts which side of the nervous system will be most dominant in that moment. Because this technique engages the parasympathetic nervous system, 3 minutes of this breathing practice will calm you down. This technique is also the foundation of a more complex breathing pattern that allows you to revamp and clear out your mind and nervous system’s old patterns.
- Slow deep breaths through the left nostril, right thumb closing the right nostril
- eyes on the third eye.
- Left hand relaxed by your side or on your knee with thumb and index fingers pressed together.
To end: inhale and hold for 8-10 seconds before exhaling to relax
